This year FIRST announced the new robotics challenge, “Overdrive”. The object of the game is to acquire more points than the opposing alliance by driving counterclockwise around the track while moving large Trackballs over or under the overpass that intersect the track. Each alliance is made up of three robotics teams. There are two alliances in each match, the red alliance and the blue alliance.

The match will begin with a 15 second hybrid period where the robot must operate with limited control from drivers. After that the match will be a 2 minute teleoperated period where the driver has complete control over the robot. During the Hybrid period if a team knocks their Trackball off of the overpass they receive 8 points. They will also receive 4 points everytime they cross a lane marker. While in teleoperated period if a team crosses its finish line it receives two points. By pushing the trackball under the overpass or by lifting it over, the respective team receives a set amount of points. By lifting the Trackball over the overpass your alliance will receive six points plus the two points for crossing their finish line.
